It all begins with community.

At the beginning we were a group of friends, then we started talking to neighbours, and locals, we came together because we care deeply about what happens in our suburbs, our city, and our future. What started as ‘water-cooler’ conversations and community catch-ups, quickly grew into something more — a shared concern that the voices of everyday Canberrans weren’t being heard where decisions are made.

Frustrated by the status quo and inspired by the power of grassroots democracy, we began supporting local and federal independent candidates — people from our own communities who stand for transparency, integrity, and real climate action. We believe our democracy works best when it represents the people it serves, not party interests or corporate donors.

The Canberra Independent Network exists to bring people together, amplify community voices, and support independent leadership that puts people and planet first.
